Everyone deserves safe, affordable housing and to be a part of a thriving community. Our homes and communities play a big part in determining our quality of life, which is why it’s so important to us that we provide warm, safe and affordable homes in communities that need them. We’d like to share some updates with you on a couple of our current developments, where we’re providing new affordable homes.

Sherecroft Meadow development

We’re building 109 new affordable homes in Curdridge near Botley. The development, which is being built our inhouse construction team, will include 42 homes for affordable rent and 67 homes available to buy through shared ownership. To make sure the homes are sustainable and affordable to live in, we’re adding features like solar panels, air source heat pumps and water saving devices. These will help to lower the carbon footprint and reduce energy bills for our customers.

The completed homes will include one and two-bedroom apartments and maisonettes as well as houses with between two to five bedrooms. We plan to have the homes ready to be moved in to by summer 2026. We were recently paid a visit by Winchester City Councillors who were there to view the progress we’ve made.

Cllr Martin Tod, Leader of Winchester City Council at Winchester City Council said:

“We need more affordable homes where people need them - right across the district - particularly, low carbon homes that will cut carbon and cut bills. Abri's new development near Botley is a great example of the housing we need - sustainable homes - with a good mix of homes for rent and options for home ownership. It was really good to see how much progress they're making.”

Stephen Lodge, Executive Director Development and Strategic Asset Management at Abri said:

“By using our inhouse construction team to build these homes we have full control of the quality, and the incorporation of sustainable features will keep utility bills low for residents.

“Abri is committed to delivering 10,000 homes by 2030 and these homes will make such a difference for people who need them. We want to enhance communities with good quality homes and working in partnership with Winchester City Council we hope to bring more highly sustainable land led developments to the district.”

We’re partnering with AJC Group to deliver 33 affordable apartments

We’ve entered a partnership with AJC Group, a Dorset-based affordable Housing specialist, to deliver 33 affordable apartments. AJC Group acquired a brownfield site in Broadstone, Poole at the north of Lower Blandford Road which is where the apartments will be built. There’ll be a mixture of one and two-bedroom EPC-B rated homes, which are much needed in this area of Broadstone.

The proposed designs for the apartment scheme are sensitive to the existing Victorian surroundings of the area and will complement the street scene. The apartments will be built close to local services and facilities including shops, healthcare and education. And it’ll be within walking distance of established bus routes, with good connections to public footpaths and cycle ways.

David Cracklen, director of AJC Group, said:

“We are pleased to be delivering this scheme in partnership with Abri, which will provide both economic, social and environmental benefits to this area of Poole. And critically, schemes like this are needed more than ever as there is almost no affordable rent accommodation in Broadstone, with only 0.2% of homes for socially rented. It makes effective use of a vacant brownfield site and supports the local economy through the delivery of homes close to the district centre.

“We are pleased to be working with Abri again, following the success of our Violet Cross development in Hazelbury Bryan, Dorset, as well as our Lindsay Road scheme in Poole, which is due to be completed Spring this year. These developments are part of our ongoing commitment to build 500 affordable homes in the next five years for the Wessex region.”

Sam Stone, Director of Land and Planning at Abri said:

“We want to create neighbourhoods that meet the needs of the community and by revitalising formerly disused land and providing 100% affordable housing this development will help so many people.

“The regeneration of brownfield sites is key to creating thriving communities and our track record with AJC shows how successfully this can be done. Abri is committed to delivering 10,000 homes by 2030 and collaborative approaches like this mean we can continue to support more customers and really make a difference.”
