Supporting David to change his career
“I’ve been working in the care sector, but it was not a career I wanted to continue to pursue. It was impacting on my mental health and confidence. I have an avid interest in transportation, i.e., cars, campervans etc. In my spare time I like to restore classic cars and have built a camper van. I enjoy being busy and having a purpose. I was off sick due to the stress of the caring role, so turned to Abri’s Employment Services for help to explore other job roles.

“I met with an Employment Coach, Gill, at the Balsam Centre in June 2023. My confidence was at rock bottom. Gill helped me develop a CV, highlighting skills and a personal profile, which I was having difficulty with due to the way I felt about myself. She helped me navigate around the job seeking sites and explore job roles which evoked interest and provided a career path.
“I’ve now secured a driving job with Community Transport South West Limited and started in September 2023. This is a job in which I had a real interest and passion. I know that I will be making a difference in a role I enjoy. I feel that I would not have been able to achieve this in such a short time frame without Gill's help.
“The support has also had a massive impact on developing my confidence and improving my own self-esteem and self-worth. I am now looking forward to meeting new people and expanding on my own social network.
“The support provided by Abri’s Employment Services is so necessary to improve people’s access to employment, to develop confidence and improve overall wellbeing. I am so thankful for the support.”
