Helping James find financial stability

“My journey first started with Abri employment service in March 2021. I had just lost my job of 14 years with Alliance Healthcare as a lead driver. I wanted a change of career and thought the construction industry would be for me.

“While I had no problems finding work, I wanted a long-term career with training and a chance to learn and develop my skills. I was working part-time hours and needed full-time work to help me become financially stable.

“Abri helped me obtain CSCS and slinger banksman training courses which I passed. This helped me find work in the construction industry. In February 2023, I contacted Arbi again to ask for help to find a new challenging career. All the previous jobs helped me pay the bills, but still no career progression and I wanted something to challenge me and give me a long-term career.

“Ian, my Employment Coach, arranged a meeting at a local coffee shop and told me that Abri was partnering with Fareham-based company, Closewood, who provide air conditioning installation and maintenance services. They were looking to recruit a Trainee Air Conditioning Engineer. This sounded exactly what I was looking for, all the training would be provided by the employer and college by night school education.

“I attended online training with the Abri team.  I enjoyed the training and it had really prepared me for applying for a role at Closewood. I had never heard of a cover letter before, but with the help and support I received with my CV and cover letter, the application was fantastic. In April I was delighted to hear I had been invited to interview with Closewood.

“I felt ready and had been fully supported by Abri’s Employment Services. Everything I had been told about the company sounded great so I hoped I would have a good interview and make a positive impression.

“After a second interview I was delighted to get a phone call offering me the job which I accepted straight away. Abri’s support didn’t end there. I needed appropriate workwear which Abri kindly funded three pairs of suitable trousers and a pair of safety boots. Closewood supplied the other branded workwear.

“I started work with Closewood on 30 May 2023 and I have enjoyed every moment so far. My first job was working at the Abri office, Collins House in Eastleigh, removing the old ducting in preparation for the new system being installed by Closewood. Ian has checked in with me to check all is OK and I have his number should I need anything/advice from him.

“This job has given me financial stability helping me clear some debt and I have a payment plan with Abri to get my rent account paid up a month in advance. Being more financially stable means I can look at upgrading my car or perhaps book a holiday in the future.

“I wouldn’t have the job with Closewood if Ian hadn’t thought of me and supported me throughout this time. I also thank Closewood for giving me the chance to grow and develop my skills so in the future I can become a fully qualified Airconditioning & Maintenance Engineer.

“I am truly grateful to Ian and Abri for the support provided over the years.”
